All Convention attendees will be provided access to the event on the Whova App in March 2022. Printed programs will be available on site, but attendees may opt out and ‘save a tree’ by using the event app on their mobile device.
FRIDAY, 24 JUNE
MORNING
Garden Walk at Planten un Blomen
Time: 9:00 am 
Cost: Free
Location: The entrance across from the Stephansplatz underground station, just down the hill from the Radisson Blu Hotel.
Capacity: No limit 

Situated next to the Congress Center Hamburg and covering 450,000 square meters of reclaimed medieval fortifications, the Planten un Blomen park lives up to its name. Planten un Blomen is Low German and translates to 'Plants and Flowers'. This park offers splendid green views where you can picnic under Mediterranean fig trees or view a Japanese teahouse. City Walking Tour
Time: 9:30 am

Officially known as the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, Hamburg is a beautiful, walkable city. Join local Zontians as they provide a casual introduction to the city’s sights, culture and things to know. This tour will help you learn more about life in Hamburg and how to make the best of your stay.

READ BEFORE YOU REGISTER: 
This event requires special security clearance. You will be required to provide your passport information to register. You will be provided with a location to pick up your official entry credentials on the morning of 24 June. You may not enter the event without credentials, passport and proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test (if still required). Please dress appropriately (no shorts) and only bring a small handbag. Do not sign up for this event if you will not be able to attend. 

Join us for the official welcome to Hamburg, Germany at the incredible Rathaus where you will be greeted by city officials and Zonta International President Sharon Langenbeck before enjoying a networking reception. 

City Hall serves as the domicile of the Parliament Senate in the Federal State of Hamburg, one of Germany's 16 state parliaments. Constructed from 1886 to 1897, this jewel of neo-Renaissance architecture is filled with delights. The City Hall has 647 rooms. You will visit the most stunning of them all and have access to the balcony overlooking the Rathausmarkt Plaza. Also, not to be missed, the courtyard in the center resembles an Italian piazza and houses the Hygieia-fountain, named after the Greek goddess of health and built in remembrance of the cholera epidemic that swept through the city in 1892.

The City Hall is open for public tours. If you cannot attend the special reception, be sure to book a tour on your own. The City Hall is open Mon — Sun from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Mönckebergstrasse
The Mönkebergstrasse is one of the main shopping streets in Hamburg. This charming area — close to the main station and the historic City Hall — is home to large department stores, fashion boutiques and small retail businesses.

Join us for a delightful evening of opera. Zontians will have the opportunity to purchase tickets before the public (if Zonta does not sell all tickets, remaining tickets will open to the public in April). Attendees will be emailed an online voucher, which they can switch to a ticket at the entrance. Seats assigned upon arrival. Please see the website for details on potential refund options.

  • Stop at a café in the morning and bring a sandwich with you for a picnic lunch in Planten un Blomen.
  • Walk to the Hamburg Dammtor station for options, including Brugmann Fresh Market, asiahung, Fresh Tasty Rolls, Starbucks, Dunkin’, McDonalds and more.
  • Dine at the Radisson Blu or one of the other nearby hotels.

Zonta Foundation for Women Reception

This is an invitation only event. Details will be sent to attendees from the Zonta International Headquarters offices. 

The magnificent historical Mozart halls with their extraordinary atmosphere are a rather hidden piece of Hanseatic civic art, although they are right in the heart of the city. One of the most beautiful ballrooms in Hamburg; the Great Mozart Hall was built from 1907 to 1909 by the architects M. Gerhardt, Hermann Schomburgk and H. Leopold Strelow.

In a 2-hour round trip, travel to the most beautiful and interesting corners of the Port of Hamburg: UNESCO World Heritage “Warehouse District” with its canals (tide-dependent), HarbourCity, Elbphilharmonie, many well-known and unknown bridges, locks and container terminals, quays, the large docks of Blohm+ Voss, container ships and cargo ships. Knowledgeable and amusing explanations in English are provided by the ship's captain.

Each guest receives a well-served whole fish roll (or a vegetarian alternative) and two drinks (beer or soft drink). Additional drinks can be purchased on board for a cash payment.

Notes: These cruises require a minimum of 80 participants to run. Then additional boats will be added as they fill. If a boat cannot be filled, the last registrants to be added may be cancelled.

Attendees will be emailed an online voucher which they must show at the time of boarding the boat. Tickets cannot be canceled or refunded, but they can be given to someone else. ‘No shows’ will not be refunded.

Opening Ceremony - Welcome to Hamburg, Parade of Flags, and keynote speaker, Andrea Ghez. Andrea Ghez is a professor of physics and astronomy at UCLA. She was awarded the Nobel Prize in 2020 for her work on black holes. She was also awarded the Zonta International Amelia Earhart Fellowship in 1987 and was named Zonta International Honorary Member in 2021.

EVENING
Dine Around with Hamburg Zontians
Time: 7:00 PM – 9:30 PM 
Cost: Free (a $30 donation recommended)
Location: Private homes in Hamburg and nearby communities
Capacity: 400+ 
This event is a unique opportunity to enjoy an intimate dinner experience in the homes of Hamburg Zontians. 

Discover German hospitality and Zonta spirit while meeting other Zontians. Your host will provide a dinner, drinks and warm conversation. The number of dinner participants per home will be from 4 to 20 Zontians. Each individual will be responsible for travel to and from the dinner location, but your hosts will help you with instructions and directions. 

Registration is open only to Zontians (18 years and older), and it is not available for guests. Registration will allow you to request the name of one other Zontian with whom you would like to attend the dinner. We will try to honor all requests but cannot guarantee that all requests will be accommodated. If necessary, you may be asked to show your vaccination card or proof of a negative COVID-19 test on arrival.

In honor of your host, you are asked to make a charitable donation of US$30 to the Zonta Foundation for Women International Service Fund on the registration form. 

This is a special event, and we want to be sure we provide full clarity on participation. As such, when you register you will be asked to acknowledge that:
  • You grant permission for Zonta to provide your information to the Dine Around planning committee. 
  • This dinner takes place in a personal home, and you will receive a contact name and address closer to the event. 
  • You will be provided directions to the home, but transportation to the location will be your responsibility.  
  • The event is entirely voluntary; and, as such, you waive any liability against Zonta, the host and their agents for damages or expenses arising from the event. 
  • You will be asked to make a US$30 charitable donation to the Zonta Foundation for Women in honor of your Dine Around host. This donation will be applied to your individual giving record and counted in your cumulative giving to the Foundation.

Come together as a Zonta International community for the 2022 Closing Banquet. This evening will offer friendship and laughs and honor the changeover of leadership with the installation ceremony recognizing the outgoing Zonta International Board, Governors and International Nominating Committee and introducing the new 2022-2024 leadership team.
 
Entertainment will be provided by Bidla Buh. For over 15 years, Bidla Buh has been delighting audiences with the most sophisticated music comedy in the tails of the new millennium. Awarded numerous prizes such as the Rheingau Music Prize, the Hamburg trio fascinates with a unique mixture of musical virtuosity, great variety of styles and the best Hanseatic humor.
