Zonta International mourns the passing of Sadako Miyake

It is with a heavy heart that we share the sad news that Sadako Miyake passed away this week.

She will be vividly remembered as co-chairman of the most memorable 2018 Convention in Yokohama. She put her whole heart and an incredible amount of energy into this work. This biennium, she served on the International Development Committee, a function that was particularly dear to her. As a steadfast donor to the Zonta International Foundation, Sadako recently accompanied Vice President Ute Scholz on a field visit to our Let Us Learn project in Madagascar. She considered this as one of the best experiences in her life.

Sadako Miyake was an accomplished businesswoman, leader and a symbolic Zontian in many ways. Professionally, she was the founder and president of Mikuni World Corporation, a Master of the Region Port Development Board and senior advisor on women’s issues to the Japan Cabinet Office.

In 1978, she was a founding member of the Zonta Club of Okayama and served as its president and as treasurer. She held numerous additional functions within her district, and from 2012-2014 served as district governor. Apart from the development committee, she had also served on the International Advocacy Committee.

The positive energy, drive and compassion that Sadako showed for women and girls will be dearly missed. Our thoughts go out to her family and the Zontians in the Club of Okayama and District 26.
