Zonta Club of Kitchener-Waterloo hosts International Women's Day film event

The Zonta Club of Kitchener-Waterloo, Canada, rented a local theater to screen the film Girl Rising to celebrate International Women's Day. At the time of registration, attendees could order box dinners, which were provided by a local women-owned catering business.

Before the film screening, the club provided an overview of the Zonta International and Unicef lead project to end child marriage in Nepal. After the screening, representatives from www.girlrising.com provided an update on how their organization has been helping girls access education around the globe. The final guest speaker was from World Vision Canada. World Vision Canada distributes the birthing kits produced by our club to the countries where they are needed most. The club has produced 26,000 birthing kits over the past decade. The speakers and film supported the Zonta theme of building a better world for women and girls through education access while demonstrating our power to effect change when we join together.

The community service project the club organized during this event was to collect donated items requested by the Sexual Assault Support Centre of Waterloo Region for female victims of human trafficking.
